Fish Fry

Arg, I'm totally horrible about updating. I feel like I've been so busy, but don't have much to show for it. Or...maybe I do, but it's for everyone else. Aah, I guess I'll get to that later. Maybe I should have titled this 'Shelley CRAFTS Her ARSE Off While Greg is Stuck at Work'....but I like fish fry, even though we didn't even EAT fish this month.

Ok, I guess I'll start with the beginning. The first weekend after the last post Greg decided to run a triathalon. Yaay Greg! He came in 14th in his division (male military ages 25-29), and 383rd place overall (out of about 1200 people). He ran it in an hour and forty minutes. I completely forgot my camera (BAD Shelley!!), but here is what I got on my phone.

We couldn't see him before his swim in the fridgid swim, where he battled riptides and a massive northern current, but we did find a great observation area where we got to cheer him on during his bike ride and run, where he even got to give Celeste a high five! It's difficult to tell in the picture, but we were at the finishline cheering for him, and Celeste was trying to give him another high five, but he only saw the kids on the other side of the finishline trying to give him high fives too. She didn't get any high fives at the finishline, but it was still fun to cheer for him. I didn't get great pictures, but the company hired to photograph the event got a few pics of Greg.

The rest of the day, Greg had to work (nice, right?) then completely crashed when he got home. Later that week, I was browsing facebook, and a friend posted a picture of a crocheted viking hat. I showed it to Greg who immediately said, "MAKE IT NOW". So I found the pattern on Etsy and went to work. The next weekend, Greg went to North Carolina for work, and since his ultra super best friend in the universe lives there, it was mostly fun for him. His friend Heath just had a baby a few months ago, named Perun. Let me explain.....Heath is a viking. For reals. That is why Greg made me make the hat INSTANTLY...so he could give it to Perun upon arrival. By the time Greg left, I had made two hats; one for Perun and one for Caleb.

Just think...the next time these hats are together....Caleb and Perun will get to meet!
Anywho..here's Perun in his spaztacular viking helmet!

And of course, Mister Monster in his viking helmet!

"GGGRRRRR!!! IM VIKING!!"

Also exciting that weekend, I got to go shopping with Rachel and Sarah, who gave me kind of a makeover. I think I tried on everything in the stores! I haven't really been shopping since I had Caleb Monster, because I haven't lost the weight yet (NOT from lack of trying!!), and I'm just not comfortable in my body yet. I'll get there, but it was still a good lesson, learning what actually DOES compliment my mommy body. Over the course of the week, I made an adult pink viking hat for Rachel, and an infant pettiskirt with a matching hat for Codi.

That weekend was Rachel's Dirty Thirty party!! We got a party bus and headed to a club. It was a brand new experience, very exciting!

I didn't drink much, and was DEFINATELY one of the most sober people on the ride home, but still had a great time!!

That brings us to this week. I finally finished the pettiskirt that goes under Celestes pirate costume, but can't post that yet, cause I want to wait till I'm all done with it. I CAN post a picture of the SUPER CUTE boots I got for her costume though!!

I also started teaching Celeste how to crochet. She isn't even close to doing it right, but I show her how to do it, and let her just have fun and pretend she's doing it. For now. And it's contagious. Her best friend Brooklyn came over and decided she wanted to try it too.

Celeste has decided she's going to start racing just like daddy. So Greg has been working on working out with her, running around our neighborhood, doing things like mountain climbers and burpies, and I make her do yoga with me (only the stretching part, cause the other stuff is 'TOO HARD!').

Doesn't she look so grown up?!

On Thursday, Greg and I went to Celestes new school for orientation. I cannot believe my little tiny baby girl started kindergarten! One of her friends Wyatt is also starting kindergarten with her, so we all walked down together.

Friday was her first day of school, as well as my first day with baby Noah, an old family friend's one month old half Japanese boy. He was sooooo sweet, and good natured, and EASY!! I forgot how awesome it is not having to chase a baby around, or put him somewhere and not have to worry about him not STAYING there for two seconds!! Noah also got a viking hat, as well as a squid hat that I gave him almost a year ago!

Isn't he sooooooo cute!?!

I asked Celeste about her first day of school. She told me they sat on the tape to listen to the teacher, and the class was noisy and they got in a little bit of trouble, and then they sat at the desks and she sat in the middle, and she drew a cherry tree, and then she ate her banana and played outside, and then she read books, and then her teacher read a book about a gingerbread man. The only bad part? I wasn't early to pick her up and she got scared because there were SOOO MANY PEOPLE picking up and dropping off their kids, and she couldn't find me. I told her next time I will be early so she doesn't have to be scared.

Today was the baby shower for Codi. Remember the infant pettiskirt and hat? I put them in a gift bag. Upsidedown. True story.

And now.....I just want to go to bed. The End.

Doopy Doopy Doo.

Right. So I'm just going to continue where I left off and pretend I didn't write for two weeks. Bah. Don't judge me. You'll understand later.

So this Oregon trip. It actually started out very pleasantly. I was a LITTLE worried about Caleb being on a plane, just because he's in the explorative stage now, so being cooped up in Daddy's or my lap didn't really sound like it would be something he would like to do for six hours. We got there in plenty of time, and the airport was actually very very empty, surprisingly. I was totally prepared for hundreds of people in line, hundreds of people in security, going on summer vacations, ect.....but apparently if you wait till after the 4th of july weekend to travel, no one else is going to be traveling with you. So we got through very quickly, and let the kids play on the floor watching the planes.

Then we boarded the plane, and everything stopped being pleasant. The boy screamed and screamed, then fell asleep and woke as we landed. Then he decided to take the opportunity to have a bowel movement for the next five minutes, pushing and grunting. since we just landed, I couldnt go change him, and since we were in the last row of the plane and had a connecting flight in 20min after touchdown, I couldn't change him during the layover. We ended up RUNNING the ENTIRE two terminals to make the connecting flight; Celeste in the stroller while I push, and Caleb in Gregs arms as he ran. We made it....and 2min later they closed the gate. We were in the last row AGAIN, so i ran in the bathroom and had to change a screaming Caleb in the super teeny tiny changing area. Lame. Even more lame? It was an explosive diaper, and I had remembered to bring everything but a change of clothes. UG!! SO Caleb was screaming on the top of his lungs, squished into this tiny hole while I wiped furiously at his clothes trying to make it back to my seat in time for take off. Lovely. When we landed in Idaho, we were looking at 3hr drive to our final destination. Thats when we realized Celeste didn't have the ipod in her backpack. Greg even went to check n the plane while they were cleaning it! Nope...ipod GONE. She also almost forgot her stuffed animal in the baggage claim office (where Greg filled out a missing item report). Exhausted and stressed, we got in our rental car and started the last leg of our journey. I looked in my backpack and found...the ipod. phew. I must also mention that it was 9:45pm and the sun was just barely starting to set.

We eventually made it to La Grande tired, worn out, beat up, but there was a hotel room waiting for us with a playpen for the monster that Gregs mom got him. From that point on, the entire trip was kind of a blur, but here are some things I remember doing.

"Deep in de night....i am looking for some fun..."
"deep in de night....I am looking for some love..."
"you tease me...oh please me...I want you to be my love toy..."

"come near me...don't fear me..I just cant get enough of you boy..."

"oooooo...you touched my tralala....mmmmmmm...my ding ding dong"

Ok. enough of this.

Then of course, We had to drive back to Idaho, fly back to SD, and good sweet Sara drove us home. PHEW.

Now WHY haven't I been able to post this yet? Because I've been to two birthday parties, made a dress, gone to a wedding, went to visit a brand new baby Noah, been throwing up for an afternoon, took the kids back to school shopping, started making Celestes pirate costume, babysat like there's no tomorrow, watched a neighbors dogs while they were out of town, went to a neighbors for firepit, vented about a very obssessed person with a neighbor.....aaah it's been a fun few weeks. And now? I want to curl up in my closet and hide for a week.

I'll end with a rather humorus story, however. So....for our entire nearly six year relationship, I have ALWAYS warned Greg that he should fill his gas tank sooner. He likes to wait until about 20miles after the light comes on, and I always fill it at around 1/8tank. I figure you never know what you'll be doing or where, and say you're in the middle of nowhere, or in a huge hurry cause you're late for something...just DO IT before it gets to be an issue or you run out of gas! One time, we had to make it to an airport and there was a freakin blizzard out (I am NOT joking...just ask my mom!!) so we went anyways and I told Greg, we need gas, lets stop here. Of course not, we'll just get it on the way. It was getting to a point where gas stations were closed cause of the storm, and we were talking about Greg having to walk to a gas station!! But...just in the nick of time, there was our beackon of hope, our ray of sunshine. Unfortunately, not only did Greg NOT learn his lesson, but it must have sunk even deeper in that he can get away with it. Lame. A freakin blizzard didnt even change his mind!!

So there I was, meeting my first ever internet only friend I've known for years, loitering outside the MCX, watching my kids go crazy....and Greg calls. I think he's on his way cause he talked about going shoe shopping and we were all gonna meet up. That was NOT the case. "hey babe....uuh...I ran out of gas." "You what?" "Uhh..I ran out of gas." "YOU RAN OUT OF GAS?!?! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!" "uuh, can you come get me? I'm in my swim gear." see....he's running a triathalon this weekend and got himself some bright spandex cause now hes a cyclist, but he wears it swimming to get used to it. "you're wearing your SPANDEX on the side of the road?!?!" "yeah...I'm on base, on Vandegrift, where the palm trees are..." This stretch of road is super busy during rush hour traffic...and it was 5pm. "You're stuck ON BASE wearing obnoxious SPANDEX and you ran out of GAS?!?!?!" I about died of laughter right then. I did go get him, then took him home where he changed and grabbed a gas can and we went to the gas station (where I also made him fill MY tank too), then we got back to the truck and he got the truck working again, and even gave a stranded biker the rest of the gas (there were like three people stranded on the side of the road out of gas that day...weird!!).

Aaahh. I guess I can have my cake and eat it too. Good times!
